A Prefeitura de Piracicaba, por meio da Secretaria Municipal de Agricultura e Abastecimento (Sema), instalou no bairro Altos do Água Branca uma nova horta comunitária. O objetivo é oferecer o cultivo de verduras e legumes em áreas públicas. O projeto incentiva a geração de renda à famílias carentes e evita que áreas públicas sejam invadidas ou alvo de descarte irregular de lixo.

Em algumas semanas, voluntários da Associação de Moradores do Bairro Água Branca (Amabi) darão início ao plantio de verduras com mudas oferecidas pela Sema. No local, a equipe da secretaria já executou a limpeza dos 4.000 metros de área, gradeou e formou mais de 40 canteiros.

O secretário municipal de Agricultura e Abastecimento, Waldemar Gimenez, explicou que o trabalho nas hortas comunitárias ocuparão quase que a totalidade de áreas disponíveis no município. “Nossa intenção é beneficiar a comunidade, complementando inclusive o cardápio de instituições instaladas nas regiões onde as hortas estão inseridas. A equipe técnica da Sema oferece o trabalho de limpeza, cercado e orientação dos melhores produtos para cultivo nesses espaços. Na medida do possível, fornece inclusive as mudas”, afirmou Gimenez.

O secretário destacou ainda um outro importante fator: as visitas de crianças de escolas públicas e particulares da região que, poderão também, participar do plantio de algumas hortaliças e obter conhecimento de práticas agrícolas.

De acordo com o presidente da Amabi, Anízio Silva dos Santos, cerca de dez famílias serão responsáveis pelo cultivo de alface, rúcula, couve, cheiro verde e alguns legumes, como quiabo e cenoura. “A horta ficará sob responsabilidade da associação e será de grande importância para os moradores do bairro. Estamos acompanhando outras hortas que o prefeito Barjas Negri e o secretário da Sema, Waldemar Gimenez, implantaram na cidade e estamos empolgados para iniciar nosso plantio”, disse Santos. Segundo ele, a ideia é doar alimentos para as escolas municipais e estaduais dos bairros e também gerar renda para as famílias que trabalharão na terra.

Hortas que já estão produzindo

Os bairros Jardim Oriente, Altos do Serra Verde , Gilda e Jardim Algodoal também foram contemplados com o projeto e já deram o pontapé inicial para o cultivo de verduras e legumes em prol da comunidade.
